The Identity Challenge in Web3

Decentralized systems face a fundamental challenge: how to establish trust and verify identity without compromising privacy or enabling abuse. Traditional Web3 wallets operate on anonymous key pairs, which creates several critical issues:
  • Sybil attacks: Malicious actors can create unlimited fake accounts
  • Bot networks: Automated systems can manipulate protocols and governance
  • Compliance gaps: No way to verify real-world identity for regulated activities
  • Trust barriers: Institutions and partners cannot verify user legitimacy
For regulated Web3 applications—particularly in financial services, governance, and enterprise use cases—these limitations are unacceptable. Yet traditional identity solutions that require on-chain personal data expose users to privacy risks and surveillance.
